Szklarska Poręba | Attractions in the area

What to see in Szklarska Poręba? We present the most popular attractions.

Śnieżne Kotły

This is one of the most interesting and attractive routes in the Karkonosze. They are the remnants of the glacier, and the formation of these areas ended nearly 12,000 years ago. The whole is a nature reserve located in the Karkonosze Landscape Park, and from the top there are wonderful views of the Giant Mountains and the Jizera Mountains.

It is best to start your journey in Szklarska Poręba. The yellow, 8.4-kilometre route leads to the top, which takes a little over 3 hours to complete. The climb up this mountain is steep and demanding, but the effort is worth the reward of unforgettable views.

Szklarki Waterfall

The most famous waterfall in the Polish part of the Karkonosze Mountains. The Szklarki Waterfall operates from the Cristal Resort Szklarska Poręba just a 20-minute walk away and is located at an altitude of 525 m above sea level. Cascade is 13.3 m high, and its creation is related to the legend of the Karkonosze Mountains and the glazier's daughter - Szklarka, whose name is now the flowing stream. Cold water flowing in a stream in a waterfall freezes.

Szrenica

The second, after Śnieżka, the most famous peak of the Polish Karkonosze.

Szrenica is located entirely on the Polish side in the western part of the Karkonosze Mountains. The peak itself is about 60 meters above the main ridge. The Szrenica Massif, like the entire western part of the Karkonosze Mountains, is made of Karkonosze granite, which, as a result of weathering, formed groups of rocks and rock debris on the top and slopes, covering especially the eastern side of the slope. The granite blocks of the barren land are overgrown with yellow-green lichens, which from a distance resemble hoarfrost - hence the name "Szrenica". The origin of the name also comes from szreni, i.e. rime, which covers rocks and trees in winter. The Polish name "Szrenica" has been in use since 1949.

How to get to Szrenica?

Since 1962, a two-section chairlift to Szrenica has been running from Szklarska Poręba, and since December 2010, the Karkonosz Express with 6-seater chairs to the nearby Świąteczny Kamień. You can also climb the red trail from the Kamieńczyk Waterfall or by following a gentle, paved road from Szklarska Poręba.
