What to see in Kołobrzeg and Ustronie Morskie? We present the most popular attractions.
Kolobrzeg Pier
The pier in Kołobrzeg is an extension of Mickiewicza Street. It is 220 m long and 9 m wide, and in its vicinity there is the Jan Szymański Boulevard and the Zdrojowy Park im. Stefan Żeromski. The history of the pier dates back to 1881, when the first T-shaped wooden pier, approx. 100 m long, was built next to the Zamek Plażowy sanatorium. The end of the jetty was a haven for small sailing ships, and the entire structure was destroyed during the hostilities during World War II.
The pier that can be seen today in Kołobrzeg was officially opened on June 19, 1971. The structure is made of reinforced concrete, and thus it is also the longest such structure reaching into the sea in Poland. About 4.5 m above sea level, a walking platform was placed on it, which is available for free to all visitors. At the end of the pier in Kołobrzeg there is a two-level head where small cruise ships can dock.
The pier was thoroughly renovated in 2014 and reopened on November 27, 2014. It gained in beauty thanks to the installation of light illumination on it. The modernized and renovated pier attracts both the inhabitants of Kołobrzeg and many tourists. The entrance ticket to the pier in the season from April to September costs PLN 2.5 regular and PLN 1 reduced. In low season from October to March, the entrance is free.
Lighthouse
The lighthouse in Kołobrzeg was lit for the first time in 1666. However, this was done periodically, while waiting for the ships to arrive. It was permanently launched only 200 years later and Fresnel lamps were burned on it, using rapeseed oil, which was replaced with a gas light source only in 1909. In 1945, during the war, the lighthouse was destroyed, but soon after it was rebuilt again.
Currently, the charming lighthouse tower is 26 m high, and the range of its light reaches almost 30 km. The source of power is a rotating optical apparatus with ten light walls, in which two 200 W light bulbs are placed. The light of the lighthouse rises at a height of 36.5 m. The lighthouse in Kołobrzeg is administered by the Maritime Office in Słupsk and is open to visitors.
Inside, there is also a Museum of Minerals and a music club.
